Application Process

  • Adult and Continuing Education Students

    Applications are accepted on a rolling admission basis as space is available. Students accepted into the Adult and Continuing Education program may enter at the beginning of the term for which they are accepted. Students who do not matriculate in the term for which they were admitted must re-apply after one year.

    If you have a particular start date in mind, here are some guidelines: 

    • Submit application materials by April 15 to begin summer semester (May)
    • Submit application materials by July 15 to begin fall semester (August)
    • Submit application materials by December 1 to begin spring semester (January)

    Because of our size and commitment to serving our students, we are willing to be flexible and accept application materials after these deadlines.   

    Admission Requirements

    To be admitted, a prospective adult learner must meet the following requirements: 

    1. The applicant must be 24 years of age or older and demonstrate a capacity for self-directed, self-managed learning; Extraordinary circumstances are considered.
    2. The applicant must have a high school diploma or GED with a 2.5 cumulative GPA or above.
    3. If you are applying to the social work program, you also need to complete the social work application and reference forms. Please note that TWO recommendations need to be submitted on your behalf.

    Admission Procedures

    Step 1: Complete your online application. The $25 application fee will be waived if you apply online.

    Step 2: Have official transcripts from all institutions you have attended sent to Capital University (Adult and Graduate Education, 1 College and Main, Columbus, OH 43209-2394).

    Step 3: If applying for financial aid, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form can be found at If using Employer Reimbursement complete the Deferred Tuition Payment form and submit to the Finance Office.

    Step 4: Expect our call. Once your application, $25 application fee and official transcripts have been received, you will be contacted to schedule your admittance interview.

    • Employer Tuition Plan (only for students enrolled prior to fall 2007) - $50
    • Returned Check/Refused Credit Card Form Charge - $25
    Attention Social Work Applicants 
    If you have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and have completed at least 45 semester hours of college credit, you may be one of the new incoming students considered for the Daryl K. Brandt Adult Learner Scholarship. In order to be formally considered, you will need to be admitted to the university AND send the completed scholarship application to the Adult and Graduate Education office by the deadline.  
    Employer Tuition Reimbursement Plan
    The Employer Tuition Reimbursement Plan (PDF) allows Capital MBA and Adult Degree Completion students to defer tuition payment until after grades for each semester are released when they submit a signed authorization form (PDF) from their employer that documents their eligibility for tuition reimbursement. There is a $50 deferment fee.
