    FLUGGE MEMORIAL JAZZ CONCERT

    Please gather with us in Mees Hall at 3 PM on Sunday, January 21, for a free concert celebrating the musical and educational legacy of Mark Flugge (1962-2014), Capital jazz piano faculty member.

    Guest piano soloist Bill Dobbins (Eastman School of Music) and Capital flute professor Lisa Jelle will perform with the Mark Flugge Memorial Big Band. Other performers include Spectrum, PANdemonium4, the winner of the 2018 Capital Mark Flugge Jazz Award, and Flugge's students Abhik Mazumder and Danny Bauer ’14.

     NOW Music Festival

    The NOW MUSIC Festival @ Capital University is a celebration of contemporary music with an emphasis on music being composed now — typically, within the last ten years. The concerts and events feature works by guest, faculty, and student composers. This year our composer and artist in residence is Eka Chabashvili  from country of Georgia. Her compositions and art works will be showcased during the opening week of the festival. All events are free and open to the public, thanks to the generous support of the Society of Pi Kappa Lambda and Capital’s General Education Committee.

    Monday, January 29, 2018, Drexel Movie Theater, 7pm.
    Introducing Eka Chabashvili : Documentary I, Soviet Georgia
    Documentary film Soviet Georgia was created on the basis of the visual and written historic documents preserved in the Georgian National Archive. The film chronologically describes seventy years of the Soviet period and the main events of this period in Georgia and in the whole Soviet Union. Director - Giorgi Kakabadze, soundtrack – Eka Chabashvili.
    Introduction by Dr. Giorgi Shonia, Associate Professor of Mathematics, Ohio University. Question/answer session with the composer to follow. Free Admission.

    A documentary about ancient history and rich cultural heritage of Lechkhumi region of Georgia. Director – Tinatin Tchabukiani, soundtrack – Eka Chabashvili.
